He joined the Territorial Army as a regular commissioned officer in July 2016, making him the first serving BJP Member of Parliament to do so.

The career of Anurag Thakur

Following the election of his father, Prem Kumar Dhumal, as Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh in 2008, Anurag Thakur entered politics.

Anurag contested a by-election for the Hamirpur Constituency and won, becoming an MP. In the 2009 General Elections, he was a candidate for the Hamirpur Lok Sabha Constituency and won.

In 2011, he won the position of All India Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha President.

One of the youngest lawmakers, he was given the “Best Young Parliamentarian Award” in 2011. He was honored with the Sansad Ratna Award in 2019 for his excellent efforts as a lawmaker.

Thakur won the Hamirpur Constituency in both the 2014 and 2019 general elections.

He was appointed the BJP’s Chief Whip for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections on July 18, 2018.

Anurag Thakur was sworn in by President Ram Nath Kovind on May 30, 2019, to serve as a Union Minister of State (MoS) in the Narendra Modi administration.

On May 31, 2019, he was appointed Junior Finance Minister and Minister of Corporate Affairs. He was promoted to Cabinet Minister on July 7, 2021, at a rearrangement of Narendra Modi’s Council of Ministers.
